Life around the river

The river is the social gathering point, a place of cool comfort. A relaxed place, made for jokes and gossip. At dawn, the men wash before going into the field. Later in the morning, the women bring their washing, soap and hairbrushes. The young girls join in and wash their clothes, too, while bathing. They wash their hair and splash each other. A young boy and his sister cross further downstream with the family horse, leading it to a drink, a wash and preparing it for work with the cattle or their father’s ride to town. Later, in the afternoon, the cattle are brought to the river to cool down and get something to drink.

more stories (in Danish) can be read on Sven Gårn Hansen’s blog. These are hard but very realistic stories.

Little Nicaragua in our garden

Red beans from Matagalpa

Red beans from Matagalpa

Here are the 5′th  generation red beans from Nicaragua. It all started with 4 beans that I found in my pocket from our last visit with Damaso in his fields. We had visited Damaso and seen how he worked: organic and independent. These beans are growing for the first time next to corn as they used to back in the mountains of Matagalpa. Let’s see how they work together here in our garden…. I am waiting with anticipationsommer in our garden
